I have used Dummies book forfore in the past for other photo programs that I needed help with. I have just recently upgraded to Elements 14 and to my dismay it is much different than my old Elements 10 and I am having a heck of a time working with layers now.. and finding the tools. Layers is the base to most of my editing, so most of my edits have come to a standstill until I can figure out the changes made.I tried looking on youtube for answers but could not find what I wanted to know..so it made it easier to just go ahead and order a dummies book.What I like about he book is it talks to you in a language you can understand and does not make assumptions that you should just know what they are talking about. It's a great reference book and now that I have it, I see all kinds of things that I should learn about Elements 10.This book was made for people like me.. that know a little but not a lot!

I have been using various versions of PSE for years and have several "How to" books so when I just upgraded to PSE 14 I bought this book. The first item I looked up today was how to use the Dodge & Burn tool. They do a section about this on pages 211 - 213 however they only tell you what the tool likes like in the tools panel versus showing us so...I tried to find it on YouTube, no go. So then...I took out my PSE 12 for dummies and looked it up and found it there. I'm a visual learner so I like the previous versions of these Dummies books better.My advice is to keep any old how to books you have from previous versions of this software so you have multiple places to go for info when needed.

I was (and still am) struggling to learn Adobe Photoshop Elements 14. So I bought the book for Dummies. Yes, I learned a few things but despite being "for Dummies" it did not explain well enough how to use many of the tools. I already knew basics and wanted to learn some more advanced photo editing. I watched some tutorials prior to buying the book but their screens/commands didn't always match mine so thought the book would help. I am going to try to find a person to teach me. The book definitely was not worth the money.

I would like to give this about 3.5 stars but will have to do 4 instead! It has many pros... the book is well-organized, often easy to read, and does a very good survey of fundamental Photoshop Elements skills. I have learned a very large amount from it. I find the best way to use it is to read the chapters in order, and have the Photoshop program open on my desktop with some photos to edit and play with, while I also have this book open on my Kindle. That way I can read and try things out as I read. Now for the cons. Sometimes the coverage is nowhere near deep enough, and can be very superficial, which is confusing. For example, when covering duplicating layers, I ended up having to look up articles in the Adobe Web docs to get more complete information. This book talked about how easy it was to duplicate a layer and then copy it onto another image, however it never mentioned that the images need to be pretty much the same size in pixels for this to work. I wasted about 2 hours on this, totally frustrated because it was not working the way the book said, until I finally figured it out by reading Adobe's more detailed articles online. The book should have said that in the first place. This is just one example of potential problems. I do think this book is intended to be a "survey" and not really as a detailed document, so I take that with a grain of salt. Good overview but you may need to search for some details online as a supplement.

I am not new to Photoshop Elements. I have been using it since it was first released. I have edited a lot of photos when the program was straight forward and easy to use. Between Microsoft and Adobe changing their programs (Photoshop 14) nothing works the same. Where it took just a few clicks of the mouse to edit a picture, the same clicks don't work. So I bought this book (Photoshop Elements 14 for Dummies) hopping I could learn how to use the new P/S software. It turned out to be worthless. Every thing I look up how to do, I learn nothing. All I do, is waist a lot of time reading, looking and come up without nothing. I finally threw it in the trash. What a waist of money.

I find this book very helpful and easy to understand. It's nice to actually have an immediate reference guide to help as I learn PSE14. I was using the online tutorials and they were helpful but often are not written or recorded for this specific version of PSE so small tasks or steps would be slightly different which would be confusing. I also found it a little cumbersome to switch back and forth between screens as I was trying to complete something. Having a book by my side is much better.

Very clearly updated from an earlier book covering an older version of Photoshop Elements. That would be fine if only it had undergone thorough editing. The first area I consulted had text referring to alphabetized items in an illustration that had not been updated to have text accurately match the illustration. I should have just returned it but started marking up the book with corrections! This book is fine so long as you have some idea what you are doing and can perform the editorial corrections yourself. I hope the authors/editors donâ€™t also work on texts for medical students!!

It's a good thing instruction booklets are printed like this one for those who are computer challenged. Otherwise I would be completely lost on how to operate my new software. I love taking photos and have learned a lot already regarding making them better. I'm working my way through the book and making improvements to my photos within Photoshop Elements 14 as I go. The book spells things out fairly well, I think.
