This book is a great idea. And I hoped it would be something nice to leave my parents. I decided to review the questions before deciding how to proceed. That's when I realized that I couldn't answer many of the questions, because they tend to assume that the reader grew up in a middle class household, complete with two parents. And that family traditions, vacations, and extended family members were present.If those things aren't true for you, then - like me, you might have to rework the questions or skip them altogether. I'm a baby-boomer and was shocked that I couldn't answer the questions as they are written! So I took the book to my therapist and asked if the experiences noted in the book, the ones the book prompts you to describe, are average or normal. The answer depends on which generation you were born and grown into.If you were born in the 1950s or before, and lived a typical or middle class childhood, this book might be for you. If you were born in the 1960s, raised by a divorced and mobile parent, without contact with extended family - this book may not be for you. Or if you weren't middle or upper class, if you didn't go on family vacations, if you weren't raised by a parent, if you didn't have any family traditions, didn't have a stable home, or lived in an abusive situation - you might be disappointed that very few of these questions apply to your life.I gave this book to someone who lived an idyllic childhood. It was perfect for her.

What a great idea. I am still waiting for my Mom to finish it so we can read it, but I am looking forward to it. I gave it to her for Mother's Day and she was pretty touched (I think). So, I bought a companion to it and I am filling out stuff I love about my Mom so I can give it to her.

My grandpa just passed away and I found this book's companion "A Father's Legacy" in his apartment. I really enjoyed reading the book and learned several new things about him. We just purchased A Mother's Legacy for both of my wife's grandmothers and look forward to reading them as well.

I didn't know what too expect when ordering it really. I can tell you that once it arrived (fast!), and I was able to look at it. Well let's just say at first glance it looked boring and not what i was hoping for. But upon further inspection, its EXACTLY what i was looking for! I may have0 had no idea I was looking for just that. It's a well thought out book.If you're looking to pass down to your children, so they will know just who are and what you're life was like before them, as well

I think this is one of the ones I kept for my mom? It has some good questions, if she were to fill it out! If you think your parent actually will, then I recommend it highly as this will be priceless in the future. Or maybe buy it & try regardless as it doesn't hurt to try!

I have researched a great number of these because most of these do not give you a glimpse into the actual questions for mom to answer. I am very happy to have found this one. The outside is not as elegant as I would have liked, but I was truthfully more interested in finding one with questions to answer that my son would find interesting.

Anytime someone is expecting this is my go to gift for the shower. It's a journal with questions to help the mother tell her story. The most important gift that can be given to future generations is stories. When all else has passed it's our stories that will be remembered and cherished. This provides a wonderful outlet to write those stories. It's more like a diary with questions so no need to fear writers block.

Excellent Mother to child book. I bought 2 of them one for my daughter and one for my son. I am filling them, but I wish I had bought them when the children were smaller. I waited till mine were 36 and 33 and memory is a little sketchy, the book is itself is GREAT!!!
