I have to admit I've been waiting weeks, if not months, for this book. Ever since Gaughran mentioned it in a newsletter, I've been eagerly awaiting it. I've dropped everything to read it and believe me, it was worth it. If you want solid, tested, information about Bookbub ads that will up your game, this book is it. What I especially love about this book, is it is jam packed with hands on information and tips you can tackle RIGHT NOW. And Gaughran's writing keeps it entertaining and informative at the same time - not always easy. I've read books on advertising that leave me more lost and confused than when I started THIS BOOK IS THE ANTIDOTE. Bravo!
Since I started on a self-publishing career in 2011, there hve been only a handful of voices that have consistently provided smart, up-to-date, and relevant information on the industry and Dave Gaughran’s has always been at the head of that pack.Bookbub Ads Expert is the latest in his series of must-have self-publishing guides and I found it (along with the helpful resources he points to on his site) to be just the kind of direction I needed to demystify Bookbub, currently one of the Big Three (along with Amazon and Facebook) of ad markets for authors. (Dave’s signature wit and humor are just the icing on the cake.)If you’re having trouble wrapping your head around the nuances of Bookbub advertising (and it is very different than the other platforms out there) or you’re an old advertising veteran and want to refine your skills, you owe it to yourself to snag a copy of this book. Do it!
I was hoping for useful info here, but instead found mountains of repetitive, unfunny and downright annoying filler material. David advocates only one way to win on BookBub -- using CPM ads for free and 99-cent books. He says there is no market for full-priced book ads on BookBub, that you can't stand out using BookBub's easy ad creator tool, and that you can't get a decent ROI using cost-per-click ads. I do all of these things and still end up with better results than the ones he calls stellar. What good is a low CPC when you're selling your books for nothing -- or giving them away? I could be wrong, but his strategy seems like a race to the bottom. I prefer getting paid for my books.
I read Bookbub Ads Expert cover to cover in a single sitting, highlighting loads of stuff to re-check later. Then I let it filter through my mind for 24 hours.I've fumbled around with Bookbub advertising for a year or so now, without really knowing what I was doing. I love stats and figures, so that side of things was fine, but I had no idea how to identify suitable authors to target.My strategy was to throw dozens of names into the targeting box and hope some of them worked.Now, after reading BB Ads Expert, I've just finished setting up my first tests with a much more focussed audience, and I'm eagerly awaiting the first results.To date, I've had more success with Facebook ads than anything else, but thanks to David's concise, no-nonsense guide I'm hoping I can add effective Bookbub ads to my arsenal of wealth-making tools.And yes, I appreciated the little asides and jokes in the book.Are you wondering whether to get this title? Ask yourself this: have you tried Bookbub ads? Do you think you're getting the most of out them?If you're like me, you answered Yes and Not really.If I sell two or three extra ebooks thanks to David's advice, this title will have paid for itself. You can't argue with that.
I've tried Bookbub ads off and on for the last few years and haven't been very successful compared to FB and AMS ads. This book has a lot of good, detailed information and some new strategies I haven't tried. I'm excited to dive in and experiment more. I should start with the caveat that I haven't actually tried any of the tricks and tips in this book--yet. I know I need to get serious about trying out BookBub, but frankly it's all so overwhelming and there are so many ways to spend your money when it comes to book marketing. I'd heard that BookBub while go through it like water through a fire hose, which has made me leery.This book does indeed say that BookBub will run through your budget like nobody's business if you're not careful, but it gives you clear and useful suggestions for how to set up your ads, how to find and test target authors, and how to time and run your campaigns, with separate ideas for "big blast" campaigns (e.g., for a new release or Kindle Select deal) and "slow drip" campaigns (e.g., for a permafree book). After reading it, I do at least feel ready to dip my toes in BookBub's waters.Although this book is for information, not entertainment, one of the best things about is the style. It's extremely readable, with lots of humor, so you'll enjoy reading it instead of plowing through it grimly. I wouldn't say just read it for the entertainment value alone, but it certainly helps!
Like many authors, I tried Bookbub ads, lost some money, and quickly stopped. I have been working to build my author business for several years and have taken numerous training courses, spending thousands of dollars. Oops! I mean a hundred or so... in case my husband sees this. I can't believe I never thought to try (or learned in any course) the FANTASTIC ideas in the killer moves section. Those gems alone make the price of this book a steal. I'm so excited to try them out. Having this guide in-hand makes me confident enough to try Bookbub ads again. Oh, and yes, David, I'll test!
